I started to paint in 2008 and since then I have been on an art journey. My choice of subjects has changed over the years as has my choice of medium. I am passionate about the natural world, both landscape and its wildlife, especially birds. I spend a great deal of time watching birds initially to identify them and increasingly to observe their behaviour, flight and calls.
Currently I am working in mixed media, mainly acrylic paints with the addition of other drawing materials. My landscapes could be described as abstract as I enjoy the freedom of putting paint down on a surface without being constrained by representation, at least in the early stages of a painting. Sketching often out in the field, hints of a real place or even birds might creep in towards the end but the aim is always to create with freedom, to retain the energy of the brush marks and to enjoy the results of a more playful approach..
