inspired by landscape....committed to mark making

I have a lifelong passion for wilderness places and wildlife. My art explores the tension between the elements of nature and the struggle of its flora and fauna to survive against massive odds.

I’m interested in depicting this interaction through markmaking, collage, colour and texture. I am attracted to the Fells and the salt marshes, the mountains and the estuaries to absorb the atmosphere and to observe and record the colours, movements, sounds and shapes. In the studio I work intuitively and fast with wet and dry mixed media. I often push the paint around with my hands to impart energy, expression and gesture to the piece while always trying to retain a sense of place.
